**Description:**

I. **Basic Purpose:**






The Clinical Education Consultant is a subject matter expert responsible for developing concept-based clinical curriculum and provision of clinically-focused development activities utilizing appropriate principles of adult learning. Responsible for specialty-based assessment, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical education programs and competency validation for Associates. Serves as expert clinician, mentor and role model, driven by evidence based practice and professional standards. Models exceptional behavior and professional standards reflective of patient-focused care and the organization's mission and values. Acts as a resource in the development of policies, quality reviews, in-depth clinical analysis and examination of quality root causes.








II. **Major Duties and Responsibilities:**






1. Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required.






2. Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.






3. Designs, develops and facilitates concept based clinical education activities using current research and evidence-based practice to ensure consistency of practice across the health system.






4. Facilitates learning by creating an environment in a classroom or clinical setting that assists in the achievement of desired cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes. Develops scenarios and incorporates the use of simulation equipment and technology.






5. In conjunction with unit leadership, accountable for conducting learning needs assessments and coordinates an individualized learning plan for all new unit/department Associates.






6. Participates in the selection of preceptors and guides preceptors in their development to promote standardization of practice and continuous improvement.






7. Coordinates the hand over process from clinical orientation to the department preceptors. Continues to act as a resource to unit leadership and preceptors to ensure successful completion of orientation.






8. As an EPIC credentialed trainer, provides onboarding electronic health record (EPIC) training to new associates during Clinical Orientation and supports continued learning efforts during unit orientation.






9. Based on established practice standards, develops specific learning curriculum and presents plans to unit leadership.






10. Collaborates with unit leadership on routine educational rounding within units. Observes, coaches and interacts with staff. Provides routine feedback regarding rounding observation and accomplishments to unit leadership on a regular basis.






11. Collaborates with unit leadership to develop short term and long term educational plans and calendars.






12. Collaborates with clinical leadership, risk management, quality, materials management and other key stakeholders related to unit specific learning activities for consistency across the system, efficient use of resources, and to avoid duplication of efforts.






13. Collaborates with clinical leadership to deliver and deploy throughout the organization core educational offerings (i.e. residency programs, annual mandatory education, skills validation, life support training, TJC and other regulatory compliance training, environment of care/safety, and policy/procedure/equipment changes education).






14. Conducts educational activities within his/her area of expertise, incorporating principles of adult learning, promoting critical thinking, and incorporating departmental or regulatory standards.






15. Evaluates the effectiveness and outcomes of learning activities.






16. Works with leaders regarding completion of Associates' educational records, documentation of educational activities into the appropriate databases and performing educational file audits as scheduled or requested to meet regulatory requirements.






17. Maintains all lesson plans according to departmental and accreditation standards.






18. Serves as a role model/change agent to promote professional and technical development of Associates.






19. Communicates effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization.






20. Actively participates in unit/department/hospital committees as appropriate.






21. Participates in professional/specialty organizations.






22. Facilitates professional development in others by encouraging opportunities for continuing education and competency attainment.






23. Provides consultative services to internal and external customers.






24. Serves as clinician role model and practice expert in the specialty departments.






25. Serves as a resource to other educators/departments within MHS and the community.






26. Maintains an active clinical practice, demonstrating expertise in the clinical environment.






27. Is actively involved in continued professional development and pursuit of personal learning.






28. Identifies opportunities for self-development and maintains educational/clinical competencies appropriate to role.






29. Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Martin Health System.






30. Performs all other duties as assigned or requested.






III. **Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education):**






> Baccalaureate Degree required. Must be actively pursuing Master's Degree. For Clinical Ed Consultants in Nursing, either the bachelors or masters must be in nursing.

> Current/Active State of FL RN License required - primary source online verification required directly from State of Florida Licensing database.

> Current acceptable BLS certification required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider OR American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer OR American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers; ACLS, PALS, NRP certification as applicable.

> National board certification in area of responsibility preferred. Recommend national board certification in area of responsibility within 1 year of accepting position






Proficiency and clinical expertise in the clinical specialty; knowledge and expertise skill in clinical care as generally acquired through a minimum of 3 5 years of experience; mentoring, precepting and or teaching experience preferred.
